Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum says that until the New Patriotic Party (NPP), no government in Ghana’s history had invested $ 1.5 billion in educational infrastructure.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo and the PNP government have attached a certain level of importance to the well-being of children and their right to education.

Speaking in an interview with Evans Mensah of JoyNews, the vice minister, who is in charge of pre-tertiary education, warned the Democratic National Congress (NDC) to desist from messing with the free SHS policy.

His caution follows several statements by NDC standard-bearer John Dramani Mahama that his government will eliminate the current two-way system and modify it with what he describes as a better and more beneficial system.

But the Bosomtwi MP in the Ashanti region believes the current system is serving more purposes than the NDC would introduce.

“We will not review the free education policy.

“When it comes to education, look at it through the lens of education policy. Education now has to drive our transformation agenda, ”he said.

Dr. Adutwum in the interview urged the NDC to applaud President Akufo-Addo rather than trying to cast a negative light on his efforts and the SHS free policy.

“You cannot play with that and turn it into political football because it is the effort of an opponent.

“Give Akufo-Addo some credit for coming up with the innovation, before saying he probably would have done it differently,” he said.

“It is not that the NDC likes the free or two-way SHS, but that it understands the facts behind it, whether you like it or not, as a politician, it is your responsibility to understand the facts,” he emphasized.
