Ryan Giggs has revealed that only four players escaped Sir Alex Ferguson’s infamous ‘blow dryer’ treatment throughout their careers at Manchester United.
Ferguson’s 26-year career at Old Trafford saw him inflict his furious tirades on countless world-class players, from David Beckham to Wayne Rooney, Patrice Evra to Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The trophy-laden Scotsman cultivated bulletproof respect in his dressing room, but saved a lucky few from the hair dryer.
‘There were 3 or 4 players who never had a chance. Cantona was one: Bryan Robson, Roy Keane and Cristiano Ronaldo. They all won the games in their own way, ” Giggs told beIn Sport.
‘They did things on the field, so it never felt (like they had to). Eric, there were some games where Eric did nothing. He didn’t score, he didn’t run like a Tevez or a Wayne Rooney, he had no impact.
‘But I knew that sooner or later it would come in handy. We would sit in the locker room thinking that he has to try, he has to have a pop because he did nothing today.
“But the following week it would mark the winner or it would produce a magic moment, so he handled the big names really well, as long as they did it on the field, he handled them in a different way.”
