The Governing and Management Board of the Ghana Integrated Aluminum Development Corporation, GIADEC, has established and inaugurated 19-member committees for the various bauxite communities in the country.
The communities including Asiakwa (Atewa) in the Eastern Region, Awaso in the North Western Region, Nyinahini and Mpasaaso in the Ashanti Region are all bauxite mining cities and should be duly monitored.
With special emphasis on sustainable mining and development, the members of the committees, in accordance with the management of GIADEC, were carefully co-opted from sections that have a direct interest in health, safety, protection of lives, preservation of forest reserves and development. of people.
Representing all areas equally, each team was quite present with their bosses, opinion leaders, MMDCE, Assemblymen, District Police Commanders, Forest Representatives, Representatives of women’s groups, Representatives of youth associations, religious leaders of the communities, citizens among others.
GIADEC Executive Director Michael Ansah, explaining the mandate of the 19-member committee, said they will be the corporation’s field managers, serving as a liaison between GIADEC and the communities and ensuring there is a real-time response to all worries and activities. that will emerge from mining.
The committee must also ensure that projects are owned by the people in all aspects of preserving reserves, sustainable practices, communication, job creation, and economic and infrastructure development.
The first 19-member committee opened on Wednesday at Atewa in the Eastern Region.
Addressing the durbar, Okyehemaa Nana Adutwumwaa Dokuaa praised GIADEC for the measures implemented so far to ensure comprehensive governance of the bauxite mining project in the area.
He was hopeful that this would bring his people much needed jobs into the communities and advised all residents to support and advocate for the growth of GIADEC.
Akyem Abuakwa South Municipal Executive Director Kwadwo Ofori Sarpong assured the team of full government support in security, logistics and local mobilization to ensure the operational success of GIADEC in the municipality.

With a stop at Awaso on Thursday, the bauxite mining community is located in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Township of the North West region with a history of nearly 80 years of mining.
Normally, people in the community and its surroundings would oppose any new mining proposal with agitation and sometimes demonstrations. This is due to the lack of development of the area regardless of its contribution to GDP.
However, the team received a durbar and according to the chief and the people of the area, this is based on their faith in GIADEC and the government led by Nana Addo to fulfill their promise.
Awaso chief Nana Kwame Amponsah Debrah III lamented the poor conditions of the community and called on the government to help his people. GIADEC, for its part, assured that they will not give up on the promise of making mining beneficial for everyone, especially for the mining community.
Hon Osei Adjei, Deputy General Manager of GIADEC, emphasized that local residents who qualify for any job within the value chain will be given top priority.
Nhyinahini in the Ashanti region on Thursday afternoon was no different from Atewa and Awaso.
Two traditional chiefs, Nyinahini chief Nana Amanpene Boateng Twum and Nkawie traditional area chief Nana Kusi Amankwaa Marfo, joined in a durbar to welcome Michael Ansah and his team.
The hotheaded bosses and people of the city praised President Akufo-Addo for his vision to redesign bauxite mining operations and establish new refining and smelting factories in Ghana.
They urged GIADEC to continue its constant engagement with all stakeholders to maintain its success story thus far.
DCE for Atwima Mponua District William Darko was hopeful that GIADEC would change the economic narrative of the district. Members of the sworn committee also thanked President Akufo-Addo for bringing governance to the people.
History was made in Mpasaaso when, for the first time in many years, the bosses of Mpasaaso No1 and Mpasaaso No2 came together for a common purpose.
These two chiefs had long-standing oppositions for traditional reasons and, were it not for GIADEC, they would not meet.
However, the inauguration of the 19-member committee turned into a celebration of unity and peace as the two chiefs buried their differences and came together to commission the committee.
The two chiefs urged the committee to work hard to protect the unit’s achievements from now on and to help cement relationships from now on.
Jobs, infrastructure development, environmental protection, inclusive operations and sustainable practices were the suggestions of the GIADEC speakers.
All committees in the four main areas, Atewa, Awaso, Nyinanhini and Mpassaso, are expected to do everything possible to protect the interests of their people.
