Ghanaian forward Elvis Manu’s efforts were in vain as his three goals failed to rescue Ludogorets Razgrad from defeat to LASK Linz in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Ludogorets were hoping to bounce back from their 2-1 home defeat on the opening day to Royal Antwerp when they travel to Linzer Stadion to face LASK Linz on Matchday 2.

The hopes of the green and white boys were dashed after just two minutes of play when Hussein Balic brought home the opener for LASK.

Andreas Gruber doubled for LASK with a well-scored goal in the 11th minute before Elvis Manu cut the deficit in half with a close-range shot four minutes later.

Marco Raguz restored the hosts’ lead in the 34th minute before an own goal by Benin international Olivier Verdon put LASK ahead 4-1 in the 56th minute.

Ludogorets, however, did not go down without a fight, as Manu struck again in the 67th minute and reduced the score once again.

The Ghana poacher gave his team some hope of getting something out of the game after he sowed coldly from 12 yards in the 74th minute.

Despite dominating the last stages of the match, Ludogorets could not find a draw as the match ended 4-3 in favor of the Austrian club.

Manu lasted thoroughly as his compatriot and teammate Bernard Tekpetey played 88 minutes.
