Ghana coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has decided not to complain about his unpaid wages.
Akonnor, 46, was appointed in January after the departure of Kwesi Appiah.
He has been in charge for 12 months, but has yet to receive any of his reported $ 25,000 monthly pay.
But speaking in a recent interview, the former Black Stars captain claimed that he will continue to hold out without complaint.
“All Ghanaians want to work and get paid. However, he is Ghanaian and it is important for him to continue holding on without complaining, hoping that one day he will get paid, ”Akonnor said on Kessben FM.
Black Stars have recorded two wins and two losses under Akonnor’s leadership so far.
But Akonnor is confident that the team will improve as it aims to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Ghana, after qualifying for three consecutive tournaments between 2006 and 2014, failed to reach Russia in 2018.
“My goal is to help Ghana qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar.
“I want to qualify for the nation for the next FIFA World Cup, but that’s not all I would like and I want my team to do well and for the country to be proud and everyone happy,” he said.
Black Stars will begin their qualifiers in June 2021.
Akonnor also reiterated his desire to lead Ghana to their first African Cup of Nations title since 1982.
The Black Stars are close to securing qualification for the next tournament in 2022. They need one point from the remaining two games to qualify for Cameroon.
