President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced to the United Nations on Wednesday that Ghanaians have agreed to work together to ensure transparent, free, fair, safe and credible elections.
“It is a source of great pride for me that, despite the difficulties in conducting elections during a pandemic, I can affirm that all Ghanaians have agreed that we must work together to ensure peaceful elections,” he said.

He said the general election would be the eighth since Ghana embarked on constitutional rule in the Fourth Republic in 1992.
“Each of the elections has seen an improvement over the previous one, and we hope this year will pass peacefully, with the characteristic dignity of Ghana. We are well aware of the reputation that Ghana has built as a tolerant and functional democracy, and we fully intend to nurture and enhance it, ”he said.
President Akufo-Addo said that “the most important thing for everyone to consider was the Ghana Project, which aimed to modernize all aspects of our lives and bring prosperity to our land.”
“I have no doubt that at the end of the elections, we will be proud of ourselves, Africa will have good reason to be proud of us and the rest of the world will find lessons to learn from us,” he said. .
The president said the political season was in full swing as the country geared up for presidential and parliamentary elections in December.
Like everything else, he said, even politicking had been affected by the pandemic and that political parties could not campaign for votes in the traditional way.
He said political parties relied on technology to spread their messages in the time of COVID-19.
