The Henry Djaba Memorial Founda (HDMF) has marked its second anniversary celebration in Ghana with a call for Ghanaians to show more love for people with disabilities.
According to the Foundation’s Executive Director, Dr. Otiko Afisah Djaba, people with disabilities also had the capacity, skills, knowledge and willpower to support Ghana’s development if given the necessary opportunity and recognition. .
Speaking in the 2North Dakota Anniversary celebration and Christmas party held at the Henry Djaba Memorial Center for Ideas and Knowledge in Somanya in the Eastern Region, expressed his deep gratitude to Almighty God for the clear vision, perseverance and the spirit of power to further his dream of supporting vulnerable people in reality.
He said that the Henry Djaba Memorial Foundation, which was established primarily to leverage the legacy of his late father, Mr. Henry Kwadwo Djaba to positively impact many lives, had accomplished an enviable feat in the past two years and continues to count.
Naming some of her achievements since the Foundation was established, Dr. Otiko Afisah Djaba said that her organization’s success stories were enormous, hence the many prestigious awards and recognitions received.
He said that his organization had been able to create a great platform for people with disabilities to have a say on Adom TV’s flagship television show “Let’s Talk Ability”, to change people’s negative attitudes and perceptions of people with disabilities.
He noted that the Foundation, with the help of some local and international organizations, had supported thousands of people with disabilities and vulnerable women, empowered them with employment skills, start-ups and provided them with different types of aid packages during the peak of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Ghana.
According to Dr. Otiko Djaba, the Foundation had started the ultra-modern Henry Djaba Memorial Center for Ideas and Knowledge to provide free entrepreneurial skills to disabled people and vulnerable girls in Somanya to provide them with alternative income-generating activities and employment skills.
The Center offers training in hairdressing, fashion design, ICT, bead making, hair creams, business management, etc. All students who train at the Center receive free job tools to start their own businesses after graduation.
Dr. Otiko Afisah Djaba, who is also a former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, expressed her gratitude to UNFPA, the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, Plan Ghana International, the Global Fund of Canada, MASLOC, the Church of Jesus Christ of the Last – Day Saints, Water Aid Ghana, Ghana Baptist Convention, Ghana Gas and Ghana Water Company Limited, among others for their support.
