The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has promised that it will, by all means possible, fight against and discourage the growth of homosexuality in Ghana.
Speaking on the Morning Starr program monitored by GhanaCrossed, the General Secretary of GPCC, Rev. Emmanuel Bariga, said that lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals is morally and humanly wrong.
“For us as a nation, it’s a no-no, I think the biggest law we can think of is our conscience and that is something that the conscience of this nation has bought. It is not something we want someone to impose on us.
“As a Christian, this devilish act is not something we are going to accept. We are going to make sure we embed ourselves in the generation that will come to a hostile attitude towards this act… This act goes against the conscience of this nation and we will not accept it. We can think about what will happen to the office later. We won’t do anything illegal, but we don’t believe there is anything right or humane about LGBTQ. No one should try to throw dust in our eyes. “
His comments come after the designated minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, said that the criminality of the practice of homosexuality in Ghana is non-negotiable.
“The LGBT issue is an issue that when mentioned creates some kind of controversy, but what I mean is that our laws are clear about such practices. So, the issue of LGBT crime is not negotiable and our cultural practices also disapprove of it and these are two strong positions on the matter and this is what I defend, “he said.
The European Union in Ghana has supported the growth of the LGBT community in Ghana by helping them open an office in Tesano, Accra.
The EU has said that it is necessary to respect the human rights of all people.
The LGBT community organized a fundraiser that was attended by several diplomats, including the Australian High Commissioner in Ghana, Gregory Andrews. The diplomat has promised to support his course.
