Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said Thursday that the influx of car manufacturing companies into the country to build vehicles would soon make Ghana the Dubai of West Africa.
According to him, many countries in the subregion would soon visit Ghana to buy affordable vehicles, which would boost Ghana’s economy.
He reaffirmed the government’s determination not to legalize commercial operations of motorcycles, popularly known as “Okada”.
Dr Bawumia made the remarks when he paid a courtesy visit to the Regent of Ashiaman, Nii Annan Ajor, at his palace on Thursday, during a four-day working tour of the Greater Accra region.
The vice president also explained that the government would prefer to implement the National Transportation Recapitalization Plan to lease new vehicles to commercial drivers and pay for them in installments.
Along the same lines, he said, commercial drivers (taxi drivers) could use their old vehicles as a mortgage to secure new cars.
Dr. Bawumia said Ghanaians were witnessing much better governance and leadership under President Akufo-Addo with many flagship initiatives including; A district, a factory, a constituency. An ambulance, FSHS and plantation for food and jobs.
The government, he said, had hired a total of 180,000 teachers and nurses, respectively, from the public since 2017.
The vice president indicated that in view of the fulfillment of around 80 percent of the PNP’s 2016 election campaign promises with more ongoing projects, Ghanaians could rely on the PNP government for four more years to implement more development projects. .
Dr. Bawumia outlined some policies and programs that the Akufo-Addo-led government intended to implement if given another four years.
They included; the National Transportation Recapitalization Plan, the Leasing Program for Commercial Drivers to Have New Vehicles, the Tertiary Education Student Loan Scheme for College Students to Receive Loans and Pay Back After School, and the National rental subsidies for workers to rent decent accommodation and then deducted from their income. salaries and expand the Free Senior High School policy.
He said that Ashiaman would benefit from the 111 district hospitals that the government intended to build some deplorable road networks in the area and that every Zongo community would get a model high school.
Dr. Bawumia called on voters to vote en masse for Alhaji Yakubu Labaran Barry, the NPP parliamentary candidate for the Ashiaman constituency, to seize the seat from the opposition NDC.
Nii Annan Ajor, Regent of Ashiaman, said that Ashiaman was overcrowded and therefore called for the expansion of social amenities such as health facilities, classroom blocks and water system and asphalt of deplorable roads and the construction of a new cemetery. In the area. .
The Regent said he had assigned offices to the 31 tribal chiefs in the area within his new palace.
