December 31, 2020 marks the end of the government directive to Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to serve Ghanaians with free water.
This was part of the measures to slow the rapid spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a press release from the Company’s PRO, Stanley Mantey said: “GWCL customers should be aware that thereafter, paying the water bill will be the responsibility of the customer.
He further added: “The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, and GWCL Management, therefore wish to inform consumers and the general public that the last meter reading for the month of December 2020 officially ends the free delivery. of water.
GWCL assures customers that meter readers and all front-line personnel will continue to fully adhere and practice all protocols to protect themselves and our dear customers, including dressing in GWCL clothing, identity cards, personal disinfectants, and face masks, before entering your premises to read the meters.
Details;
- Landlords can / should re-arrange with tenants prior to free water delivery.
- Water providers can / should resume normal business activities after the last meter reading in December 2020.
- Disconnected customers who have reconnected in order to enjoy free water during the period must urgently pay their arrears to stay connected.
- Disconnected customers will remain disconnected until their arrears are settled in full before their supply is restored.
- All GWCL collection / payment points are open during normal business hours and customers can also pay their bills through mobile money channels with all telecommunications networks.
