Ghana will formally protest to WAFU over the performance of referee Vincentia Enyonam Amedome, whose decisions they believe adversely affected the outcome of their WAFU U-17 Nations Cup match against Ivory Coast.

The leaders of the Black Starlets team say they will also file the complaint against the Togolese referee in the Confederation of African Football (CAF), claiming to referee unfairly in Tuesday’s match at the Lomé tournament.

Annoyed at the lousy standard of refereeing in Tuesday’s match they lost 3-1, Ghana’s national team officials say they want the referee’s performance to be investigated and removed from the CAF referee roster, claiming that “She is a danger to the development of football in Africa.”

Ghana needed only one point to advance to the semi-finals of the competition, but dropped out of the tournament following the loss to the Ivorians thanks to some controversial decisions by the referees.

The numerous howls from referee Amedome cost them enormously in the game, causing consternation from the Ghanaian coaches on the bench.

But two calls denied by Togolese officials stood out after the referee denied blatant obstructions to Captain Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Samuel Boakye in the Ivory Coast penalty area, sparking protests.

The Ivorians opened the scoring at 10th minute via Moses Junior Razak Fofana. He held on to a fumble in the Ghana defense to score the first goal.

In the second half, Charles Likpa scored the second goal for the Ivorians, but Ghana responded two minutes later through John Batigi.

Batigi hit a cross from Captain Fatawu with an easy touch. The goal brought Ghana back into play, but took a hit four minutes later, when Cederick Emmanuel Don scored the third goal from the penalty spot for Côte d’Ivoire.

The victory sends Cote D’Ivoire to the semi-finals of the tournament with six points. Nigeria also qualifies with one point. Meanwhile, Ghana withdraws from the tournament after choosing a two-match point.
