Galamsey’s activities have spoiled the environment
The designated Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, suggested that Ghana should “severely” regulate excavators to address the problem of illegal mining in the country.
According to him, excavators should be counted and banned as a measure to combat illegal mining.
“We should have a census of bulldozers in this country, and we should even consider a temporary ban on them. Dismantle some of them, sell some of them and then ban some of them and attrition get the numbers that we can use for small-scale mining, ”he told the parliamentary nominating committee when he took his turn.
He added that “we should criminalize the manufacture of washing plants without a license because you know that the washing plant is going to be used to make galamsey in bodies of water.” We should have a law that based on the available resources we have, perhaps not more 50 square kilometers must be mined at any time, just like we regulate frequency moderation in this country. “
He assures the committee that he will work toward legalization if he receives the go-ahead.
