Ghana has registered 635 new cases of Covid-19 today Saturday, January 23.

This includes yesterday’s 658 cases that brought the figure to 1,293 in two days.

Total active cases has also shot up to 2,799.

The Ghana Health Service has reported covid-19 on its website.

The number of cumulative cases has also increased to 60,115.

Clinical recoveries from infection have increased to 56,955.

Today no new deaths have been registered.

Many have attributed the rise in the country’s situation to political rallies and marches organized by the two main parties, NPP and NDC, before and during the December 7 elections.

Law enforcement agencies fell asleep with the government directive on the mandatory use of nasal masks.

Ghanaians were at large when radio and television campaigns on regular hand washing, hand sanitizing and social distancing abruptly ceased.

The new, deadlier variant of covid-19 has awakened the ‘sleeping’ government, as many have described it, to begin aggressively enforcing security protocols, including several arrests of people without nasal masks in public places. .
