Karela United’s second-half draw prevented four-time Ghana Premier League (GPL) champion Ashanti Gold from their first game of the season on Sunday.
After Diawisie Taylor scored in the fifth minute to give visiting Karela the lead, Appiah McCarthy and Hans Kwoffie responded to put AshGold up 2-1 at halftime at Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.
Samuel Ofori, however, scored for the visiting team 11 minutes after the break to snatch a point from his team.
Elsewhere at Akoon Park in Tarkwa, Medeama gifted Ali Ouattara’s lead in injury time in the first half to settle for a 1-1 draw at home with Great Olympics, who found the back of the net through Daniel Appiah.

There were seven goals at Sogakope where host Wafa beat King Faisal 4-3. Konadu Yiadom, Godwin Agbevor, Augustine Boakye and Daniel Lomotey were on the hosts’ score sheet. Kwame Peprah (two) and Wadudu Yakubu scored for the visitors.
At Cape Coast Sports Stadium, Ebusua Dwarfs and Elmina Sharks played a 2-2 draw. Dennis Korsah-Akoumah and Razak Issah scored for the hosts, while Richard Mpong and Ishmael Hammond scored for the Sharks.

Early Saturday, Legon Cities hosted Berekum Chelsea at Accra Sports Stadium for the season opener. The hosts went ahead via a Stephen Amankona penalty, but Jonah Attuquaye similarly struck back for the Royals from the spot to snatch a 1-1 draw.
The match between Hearts of Oak and Aduana Stars has been postponed indefinitely.
