The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season will start on Friday, November 13, 2020.
The announcement follows the government’s decision last Sunday to lift the ban on contact sports (including soccer). which was imposed after the country recorded its first two confirmed cases of COVID-19 in March.
The GFA statement said that the GPL is expected to start on Friday, November 13, 2020, while the Division One League begins on December 3, 2020.
Meanwhile, the women’s Premier League is scheduled to start on January 2, 2021.
“It has been more than six months since football in Ghana was stopped due to Covid-19 and with the game set to resume, many are expecting a great comeback, seeing how exciting the canceled season was,” the GFA statement said. .
“Clubs must comply with all the requirements of the Club Licensing Regulations. The Club Licensing Board is responsible for examining the club’s license application to ensure compliance with legal, administrative, financial, technical, medical requirements. and Safety and Security of the GFA Club Licensing Regulations prior to issuing licenses to clubs, must be submitted by October 5, 2020.
“On October 6, 2020, the Club Licensing Board is expected to begin inspection of the venues and secretariat of the Premier, Division One and Women’s Premier League clubs. This will help affirm the decision to approve multiple centers submitted by clubs if meeting criteria
“The various clubs will register their players at all levels for the new season to begin and it is expected to end on October 1, 2020. Clubs in the Premier League, Division One and the Women’s League have until midnight (23 : 59 GMT).) Of November 5, 2020 to present the final list of its players and officials for the new season “.
The statement added that the dates for the start of the competitions of the Regional Association of Soccer, Beach Soccer and Futsal would be announced in due course.
“The Association will also issue the protocols and the COVID-19 Regulation in addition to the FIFA and CAF Guidelines that were previously sent to the members.”
It will be recalled that the GFA canceled the 2019/2020 league season after the country banned contact sports about six months ago.
