Former Asante Kotoko forward Eric Bekoe has entered the discussion on whether Ghanaian clubs should stop paying transfer fees during player transfer negotiations.
According to him, the best option for both parties will be the introduction of weekly payments as is done in Europe if the Ghanaian clubs want to stop paying the registration fees.
In the proposed policy, clubs will stop paying players’ transfer fees and then distribute them to their monthly salary.
“They should consider the weekly salary if they intend to stop paying registration fees,” Bekoe told Happy FM.
“They also have to consider other factors. In my opinion this will be more professional like what is done in Europe. It will even encourage players to play well at their clubs, ”he added.
Asante Kotoko is reported to be the first Ghanaian club to consider this new policy under its new leadership led by Nana Yaw Amponsah.
According to sources, the club has accumulated so many debts due to these transfer fees that are paid to players who do not even get to finish their contract before leaving, so the club becomes the biggest loss.
Renowned Ghana soccer agent Oliver Arthur has proposed that the policy will help both parties as players will give their best to clubs and vice versa.
