The Ghanaian Ministry of Health (MoH) has warned citizens to ensure strict compliance with COVID-19 safety protocols.
The current tepid attitude of the population in relation to the observance of the protocols, according to the Ministry, especially in public places and social events, was a concern.
“Many Ghanaians have stopped using nasal masks and also abide by the other related preventive measures.
“The notion that the pandemic no longer existed must be discarded if we want to stay alive and healthy,” said Mr. Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, the sector minister.
He said that the insolence with which security protocols were violated was not in the best interest of the nation, as it could result in a resurgence of COVID-19 cases.
Addressing a durbar of Asante-Bekwai chiefs and people in the Ashanti region, attended by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the minister said that a second wave of COVID-19 infections could have a huge cost to the population. people.
The increase in cases related to the new coronavirus in Europe, the United States and other parts of the world should serve as a lesson to Ghanaians, the minister warned.
“It is the responsibility of each and everyone to do the right thing, as the country could not afford to impose another blockade with the related socio-economic effects on society,” Agyemang-Manu warned.
According to the Ghana Health Service portal on COVID-19, the country had recorded 48,904 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday, November 8, 2020, with 47,611 recoveries and 320 deaths.
The country, whose management of the pandemic had been described as one of the best in the world by health experts, had seen an increase in active cases recently.
The blatant abuse of protocols exacerbated by recent political campaigns, where only a few people, including the leaders of the respective parties, are normally seen wearing their masks, a large majority of people are inflexible in complying with security protocols .
Some Ghanaians, in a recent interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) about the pandemic, said they were reluctant to wear nasal masks because, in their opinion, the disease no longer existed.
President Nana Akufo-Addo, who attended the durbar as part of his four-day tour of the Ashanti region, in a short speech, added his voice to the call for Ghanaians to continue to maintain personal hygiene while observing security protocols.
