Ghana’s legendary striker Asamoah Gyan hopes his return to the national top flight will put him in shape to return to the Black Stars.
Gyan joined Legon Cities in the biggest transfer on the local scene on the day of the transfer deadline after a 17-year stint abroad. He signed a renewable contract for one year.
The 34-year-old who last played for the Black Stars in the 2019 Egypt Nations Cup has not ruled out a return to the senior team as he hopes to get back in shape and do what he does best.
“It depends on how everything goes. I am a new player in Legon Cities and I have to focus on my game,” he said in response to whether the deal is a short-term move, “he told the BBC.
“Right now I need to get in shape and start scoring goals and then we’ll see where my future is with the national team. The guys are doing well, it’s a new generation right now and I’m also focusing on my personal and my career. As a player.
“First I have to do well in the league, and that’s what matters to me. I have to start playing and enjoying my football and it will happen naturally if it is supposed to. It all depends on me.”
Asamoah Gyan is Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals in more than a century of games for the Black Stars.
