Pharmacist Dr. Kwame Sarpong Asiedu has dispelled claims that the country is also facing a second wave of Covid-19.

The researcher from the Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) stated that the current rising cases are actually the peak of the first wave that was not reduced due to low testing rates.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday, the pharmacist stated that it was the change in the national testing policy that affected the number of recorded cases.

“I don’t think Ghana is experiencing a second wave. Because if you look at the fact that antibodies last between 12 and 16 weeks, it means that we are reaching a peak of infections that are between three and four months old. “

“We have had a high prevalence for a long period of time. Ghana may never have a second wave, we will have the virus simmering in a pot and it will continue constantly because we never control the spread of the community, ”Dr. Sarpong Asiedu said Monday.

However, he was quick to add that the virus will continue to spread if the masses continue to ignore security guidelines.

He also expressed concern about the activities of political parties in the run-up to the December elections.

According to him, openly telling people how exposed they are is the best approach to allow them to make the right decisions regarding their safety.

“Do you think you can tell one party to stop and the other not?” The only way will be for both of them to stop. Even if they agree, will they comply? “

“The data should be published in plain language as it was published in that press release,” he said.
