The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has affirmed that President Akufo-Addo has eradicated cholera in Ghana.
According to the minister, the country has not registered a single case of the cholera disease since President Akufo-Addo took over the reins of governance in 2017.
During the approval of her Ministry’s 2019 budget execution report, Ms Dapaah argued that the administration of the nuclear power plant has expanded the water supply to many households and has dealt with unsanitary conditions that lead to diseases such as cholera .
He added that the government is on track to achieve SDG 6 to ensure that all Ghanaians have access to water.
“On the record, the term of President Akufo-Addo will give us the amount of water that we have never had in this country,” he said.
“The policy now of the sector ministry is to make sure that when bulk water is produced, we channel the water as close to the people as possible. That is why we have increased direct access to water for citizens, so we have not had any case of cholera since President Akufo-Addo took office ”.
Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin seconded the Sanitation Minister, adding that the Akufo-Addo administration has invested heavily in sanitation, especially in disadvantaged communities.
Promoting the government’s achievements in the health sector, he said: “What is life, when the body is sick, the provision of toilets is priotherapy and this government did just that.”
“Someone would prioritize the provision of morgues in Zongos, ours is to prioritize the well-being of Ghanaians.”
However, former Deputy Minister of Works and Housing Sampson Ahi accused the Effutu deputy of not appreciating the efforts of the Mahama administration in providing water and sanitation.
According to him, the Mahama administration initiated most of the initiatives that the MP is trying to claim for the Akufo-Addo government.
