Ghana: GCB Gets New CEO

The Board of GCB Bank Limited has appointed John Kofi Adomakoh as the new Managing Director (MD) of the bank effective today, November 9, 2020.

Mr. Adomakoh, a banker, replaces Mr. Anselm Ray Sowah, who ended his term as CEO of GCB Bank in September this year after serving in that position for more than three years.

Prior to his appointment, he was Director and Global Head of Project and Asset Finance at the African Export-Import Bank based in Cairo.

A statement issued by the GCB on Adomakoh’s appointment said the Board saw it as an important milestone in the bank’s transformation agenda to become a world-class financial institution.

He said the new Managing Director “brings to this position more than 25 years of banking experience in Africa, 15 of which have been at executive management levels.”

“The Board also strongly believes that Kofi’s extensive international leadership experience, his expertise in the global financial markets, combined with his in-depth knowledge of the Ghana market, will be invaluable to the success of the Bank’s transformation journey and further strengthen its position in growing market share, revenue and earnings. We are confident that you have what it takes to take the bank to the next level, “the statement read.

Commenting on his appointment, Adomakoh said: “I am very honored and excited to join GCB Bank at this time to contribute to the transformation agenda and lead the bank to dominate the market. GCB Bank has a large clientele and a strong balance sheet. overall, uniquely positioning it as a strong and formidable Ghanaian bank supporting businesses and individuals.
