Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan says he maintains a cordial relationship with Ghana’s new coach, CK Akonor, despite not appearing in the coach’s calls since he replaced Kwasi Appiah as coach of the national team.
According to Gyan, he still has ambitions to play for the Black Stars in the near future and admits that he has interacted with the new coach about his recent exclusions.
When interacting and answering questions from his fans on social media, Gyan said: “We spoke a few times when he was first appointed. Of course, as one of the seasoned figures on the team, we had to share ideas. ” He said on Instagram live.
“He is a simple person and I like that about him.
“He just arrived and we have to give him some time, he is still building a team.
“He’s very honest in his dealings and that’s what I like the most about him.” He continued.
“He must be allowed to do his job without outside influence because otherwise he will have a lot of trouble.”
Gyan, whose career at Black Stars spans more than a decade and a half, used his platform to ask CK Akonnor for patience as he begins his life as the team’s head coach.
There were mixed reactions after Akonnor’s first two games in charge of the Black Stars, losing to Mali and winning against Qatar in friendly games earlier this month.
Gyan has endorsed Akonnor to succeed as the Black Stars head coach, but has warned stakeholders to allow the former Black Stars captain the freedom to do his job.
CK Akonnor will look to lead the Black Stars to AFCON 2022 when they face Sudan in the next round of qualifying matches in November.
