Ghana coach Akonnor will consult GFA on Kevin-Prince Boateng’s return

Ghana coach CK Akonnor has revealed that he would have to consult the Football Association (GFA) about a possible call for Besiktas attacker Kevin-Prince Boateng.

The former Barcelona and AC Milan man has been out of the West African configuration ever since he achieved an indefinite suspension during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

He was punished for insulting then-head coach James Kwasi Appiah and asked to present a public apology before being considered again for the national team selection.

“If Kevin Prince Boateng is available, why not?” Akonnor, who took over as Ghana’s new coach in January, told Joy Sports about a possible call for Boateng.

“He has played before, he has experience [and good for consideration] but because of his problems with black stars.

“I will have to speak to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) before such a decision is made if necessary.

“We all know that his departure had many problems and this needs to be clarified before considering his return.”

A presidential commission of inquiry established to investigate the controversial Ghana World Cup campaign in Brazil has advised that Boateng should never be called to Black Stars again.

Boateng, for his part, has been adamant in making an apology while insisting on his innocence.

However, he reveals that he would like to play for Black Stars again.
