Ghana coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor has said his top priority is to end the country’s AFCON title drought.
The Black Stars have not won the AFCON title for 38 years since they last won it in Libya in 1982.
Ghana came close to winning the title three times, Senegal 1992, Angola 2010 and Equatorial Guinea and Gabon in 2015.
Several top coaches have been appointed and tasked with ending the trophy drought, but all have failed in that regard.
Charles Kwabla Akonnor, former team captain, has set his sights on winning Ghana’s fifth AFCON title at the next edition of the tournament to be held in Cameroon in 2022.
“My goal and mission is to end the long Black Star trophy drought and win the AFCON tournament for Ghana,” he said in an interview.
Winning the AFCON will not be easy at all and therefore I urge all Ghanaians to join in and offer their unremitting support to the Black Stars in our quest to win the coveted AFCON trophy again. “
Ghana has nine points from four matches in the AFCON Qualifiers and would secure a place in the final if it avoids defeat in its last two matches against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.
