Youth and Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah wants the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to protect the sanctity of football if they want to attract investors.
FA products have been mutilated in recent years, leading to a documentary on alleged match-fixing and embezzlement in 2018 by Tiger Eye PI.
The association’s new leadership has been working to restore the industry’s brand-new image, but there are beliefs that few FA members continue to disparage the integrity of football.
Isaac Asiamah admonished members of Congress to adhere to three key principles, the sanctity, integrity and image of the game because it is their responsibility to recoup their investment.
“Let us protect the sanctity, integrity and image of football,” Asiamah said at the 26th FA Ordinary Congress on Tuesday.
“You are the decision makers, you are the decision makers in football, it is your responsibility to make football grow and you have to make sure it develops.
“The sanctity, integrity and image of football is your responsibility. These three words are key to the development of football, “he said.
In March 2019, the chairman of the now-defunct standardization committee, Dr. Kofi Amoah, said that corporate Ghana is unwilling to sponsor football.
He attributed the negativity surrounding the game as the reason.
Asiamah acknowledges that continued censorship of soccer would hurt investors, reminding them of their responsibility to build the game.
“When you damage the brand, it affects you. The football brand is your job, it’s my job.
“We need to make the game more attractive so we can get the kind of investment we need for football.
“I urge all of you to uphold these three key principles: holiness, integrity and the image of the game,” he said.
