Gerard Piqué finally broke his silence and offered his true thoughts on Barcelona and what has been happening at the club for the last few months.
The central defender has given an interview to La Vanguardia where he has spoken about a series of issues such as the dismissal of Ernesto Valverde, the future of Lionel Messi and the activities of the board.
Piqué doesn’t stop when it comes to talking about the recent social media scandal that hit the club earlier this year and admits that what has been happening has affected him.
“The scandal with social media accounts. As a Barça player, I see that my club has spent money, money that they are now asking us, to criticize not only people outside the club who have a historical relationship with the club, but also active players.
“And that is brutal. I asked for explanations and he [Bartomeu] He said, ‘Gerard, I didn’t know. And I believe that. But then you see that the person you know made the decision to hire those companies for those services still works for the club. “
The defender also spoke about Messi’s desire to leave the club for the summer and how he was surprised to hear about the captain’s burofax.
“How is it that the best player of all time, who we have had the blessed fortune to enjoy, gets up one day and sends a burofax because you don’t listen to him? Everything is very shocking. What’s going on?
“Leo deserves everything. The new stadium should have their name and then whatever other business name they want. We have to take better care of our legends, not belittle them. It makes me angry.”
Piqué also says that he didn’t talk much with Messi at that time, but he did tell him “it’s just one more year and then new people will come …”
The defender’s comments come the same week he accepted a salary cut and extended his contract until 2024 and, perhaps most interestingly, just one day before the first Clásico of the season at the Camp Nou.
