GCB Board appoints John Kofi Adomakoh as new CEO

The Board of GCB Bank Limited has announced the appointment of John Kofi Adomakoh as the new Managing Director (MD) of the Bank effective November 9, 2020.

Mr. Adomakoh, an astute banker, replaces Mr. Anselm Ray Sowah, whose tenure as CEO of GCB Bank ended in September this year after more than three years in that position.

Prior to his appointment, Kofi was Director and Global Head of Project and Asset Finance at the Cairo-based African Export-Import Bank. He brings to this position more than 25 years of banking experience in Africa; 15 of which have been at executive management levels.

Kofi has held many leadership positions, including Executive Director of Corporate and Institutional Banking at Barclays Bank Ghana Limited (now ABSA Bank Ghana Limited) and Group Director of Institutional Banking at Ecobank Ghana Limited.

Kofi holds an Executive Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Agricultural Science, majoring in Economics from the University of Ghana, Legon. He had his ordinary and advanced level education at St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast.

The Board of Directors considers this appointment as an important milestone in the Bank’s transformation agenda to become a world-class bank with proactivity in solving customer needs.

The Board also strongly believes that, Kofi’s extensive international leadership experience, his expertise in the global financial markets, combined with his deep understanding of the Ghana market will be invaluable to the success of the Bank’s transformation journey and further strengthen its position on growing market share, revenue and earnings.
