Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, condemned the killing of some 50 rice farmers in Zabarmari, Borno by Boko Haram insurgents.
Gbajabiamila expressed her sadness over the killings of innocent rice farmers in a statement from her spokesperson, Lanre Lasisi, on Sunday in Abuja.
The speaker said that the incident had once again highlighted the need for more military action against terrorists.
He said it was unfortunate that at a time when the country was focusing on self-sufficiency in rice cultivation, about 50 of the farmers were killed in the most gruesome way.
The Speaker sympathized with the families of the murdered farmers, the people and the government of Borno for the sad incident.
He said the house was determined to provide the necessary support, including the ongoing budget process to ensure funds were allocated to security agencies to carry out their mandate to take down the terrorists.
“It is a pity that some 50 of our compatriots lost their lives due to the barbaric and inhumane action of the insurgents at this time.
“This incident is too much for us as a country, here there were innocent citizens who dedicated themselves to life looking for their daily bread to take care of their families,” he said.
According to him, their lives should not be in vain, this should demand more actions from our army.
He said that the House of Representatives was ready to give them all the necessary support, especially through the budget allocation to decisively confront the insurgents.
