Gary Neville makes a big claim on the task for the title of Pep Guardiola and Liverpool

Gary Neville says Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola now faces “the biggest job he’s probably ever had in football” to regain the title from Liverpool.

And the Sky Sports expert claims the Reds will have received a huge boost from yesterday’s events.

Guardiola’s men were at the end of a 5-2 loss at home to Leicester City.

Scores were tied at 1-1 before the break, but Jamie Vardy inspired his team to victory by sealing a hat-trick in the second half.

Neville believes the result could already have a significant impact on the title race.

He said: “[Man City] They were so good in the first 25 minutes, but as soon as Leicester broke them a couple of times, you felt like, psychologically, they just damaged them.

“Some of the wounds from last season are reappearing. The mistakes that cost them the title. You can certainly get to this Manchester City four behind much faster than before. They don’t seem to react in transition higher as they did.”

Addressing the challenge for Guardiola now, Neville added: “Is it fair to say that while he’s on the touchline today without a title last season, he has the biggest job he’s probably had in football right now ?, to come back to win the title.

“I could go two seasons without him because they look good behind Liverpool compared to what we saw at Stamford Bridge last week.”
