Gareth Southgate is ready to risk the wrath of José Mourinho by starting Harry Kane against Denmark.
Southgate insists “all is well” Kane should be ready by Wednesday despite the England captain being sent for a scan for a thigh problem last week amid injury fears.
It puts Southgate on a collision course with Mourinho in a possible club-versus-country feud with concerns about Kane’s fitness for the Nations League clash.
Tottenham manager Mourinho publicly pleaded with Southgate not to take any risks with Kane, who has played in 11 games this season, started eight and was a substitute in Sunday’s win over Belgium after he was deemed to be missing. fit as holder.
There has already been a dialogue between the Football Association medical staff and Tottenham doctors who are concerned about Kane’s fitness and whether his levels of fatigue will make him vulnerable to injury.
Tottenham forward Kane missed months last season after breaking a hamstring at Southampton when he was fatigued and his recent injury history will sound the alarm bells.
But Southgate insists they are not risking his fitness, they gave him two extra days of rest and have been careful with Kane, now increasingly confident that he will be fit to start.
Southgate said: “Well medically, there have been conversations, because that would always be the case, so he reported on Sunday, we gave the players who reported on Sunday, that they weren’t involved in the Wales game for us, we gave them two recovery days.

“He started training on Wednesday, he was a little unhappy with how he was feeling, so then he worked with our medical team the next few days, we scanned just to be safe, but it is a muscle fatigue issue rather than an injury so I just needed a little more confidence.
“I knew he could move on a bit by then, but he just needed a little more confidence, so his training week was really not adequate to start the game.
“I think he will have gained more confidence during the stage he had against Belgium, and if all goes well, we hope he will be fine to start on Wednesday.”
