The Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists has warned its members to take doses of the COVID-19 vaccines.
The Association in a statement said that the vaccines have gone through “rigorous processes and are considered safe and effective for use.”
He also urged the public to “seek information from qualified health professionals, including medical laboratory scientists” about vaccines.
Ghana became the first country outside of India to receive the vaccine doses distributed by COVAX, a global vaccine exchange initiative.
Ghana received 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.
Newly arrived vaccines will be shipped to designated health centers beginning March 2.
The designated areas for the initial launch of the vaccine are the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area, which includes Awutu Senya and Awutu Senya East in the Central Region.
A similar segmented population will also be covered in the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area and Obuasi Municipality, according to a statement from the Information Ministry.
The COVAX facility plans to deliver about 2 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines this year.
