The issue of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey in our local parlance, has become a major concern as the activity pollutes bodies of water and depletes green vegetation.

Most of the people who are dedicated to the activity end up losing their lives because their way of extracting the precious mineral is not correct.

Reading news YEN.com.gh indicates that two illegal miners have died in a galamsey pit after a hill near a galamsey sight collapsed on them.

One person confirmed dead after police fired into a crowd in Adwumakaase-Kese in the Ashanti region

The incident occurred in Wassa Adiembra in the East Amenfi municipality of the Western Region on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.

The two have been identified as Kofi China, 30, and Gyakut, 26.

The Joy News report indicates that another person was also seriously injured by the unfortunate incident.

The injured victim was identified as Yenu Kwaw, 26. Sadly, Yaw had all his legs broken when he was rescued.

According to the report, the three victims were on their routine galamsey expedition at the time when the hill had developed some cracks.

Eyewitnesses at the crash site said the victims were under the rubble for more than two hours before being rescued.

NADMO Wassa Amenfi East Municipal Director Nana Kumi advised Galamseyers to be safety conscious as they attempt to earn a living through Galamsey activities.

In other news, 16 people lost their lives in an accident in Akyem Asafo on the Accra-Kumasi highway. Several others were reported to have suffered injuries of varying degrees.

The registered death was of both buses, since 13 men and 3 women died at the scene.

The accident occurred around 1:30 am on Friday, February 26, after two large KIA buses collided head-on.
