The standard-bearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said that his administration will acquire motorcycles to aid the activities of the commercial transportation business if he is elected to the position in the December elections.
According to John Mahama, passengers will be assisted through various payment frameworks to ensure long-term individual vehicle ownership to boost the country’s employment figures.
This follows the party’s position to legalize the exchanges, also known as ‘Okada’, as part of the long list of promises in its manifesto.
Mahama’s suggestion to regularize the business has been met with opposition from the PNP government.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stated categorically on Wednesday that the government will not break in as the company exposes citizens to risk by proposing alternatives to the company.
“Its [Okada riders] The problem will be the lack of capital but if [Transport Sector Recapitalisation Project] we incorporate new leasing policies and we have our national identification card with our digital addresses and so on, we can have a working credit system and give this risky company a different option, ”Dr. Bawumia said Wednesday.
His position has been described by the minority spokesman on Parliament’s Transportation Committee as a sign of confused government.
“We are witnessing a government in total disorder. The left does not know what the right is doing, ”said the governors of Kwame Agbodza.
Currently, Section 128 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (Legislative Instrument 2180), states, “The licensing authority shall not register a motorcycle to carry a passenger who pays the fare.”
However, former President Mahama backed up his promise of legalization with a pronouncement that the future NDC government will play an integral role in acquiring bicycles through various financing modules, such as installment purchases.
“We will buy some of the motorcycles for you to rent. This means that you will pay the amount in installments. When you are done with the payment, you will now own it in full, ”he said on September 17.
