The New Patriotic Party (PNP) has become aware of the filing of an Election Petition by John Dramani Mahama, challenging the declaration of HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the elected President of the Republic of Ghana validly elected and duly declared. .
In fact, the responsible, appropriate and democratic means of resolving electoral disputes is to go to court.
Better yet, the process of filing a petition in court should put an end to the many cases of intimidation, threats and acts of violence and arson and destruction of property, which have been the preferred path of the NDC.
The PNP is confident that the December 7, 2020 elections were won fairly. In fact, the evidence presented by the NDC has only reassured the people of Ghana that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo won the elections. The fact of the transparency of the general elections was also strongly affirmed by the myriad of local and international observers who participated in the electoral process.
It is quite curious that John Dramani Mahama, standard-bearer and petitioner for the NDC, who bases his petition on alleged mistakes made by the Election Commission, has himself presented a Petition riddled with errors, including a request for a second round between himself and the Commission. Electoral.
It is also regrettable that even after filing the Petition in court, the NDC led by John Dramani Mahama continues to incite his followers to take to the streets to cause chaos and anarchy.
The PNP wishes to assure its supporters and the people of Ghana that the Legal Team of HE the President is ready to expose the void of John Mahama’s Petition and the NDC’s denial of the electoral truth that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo he won this election without a hint of doubt.
Our response will show that the NDC has failed to present valuable material evidence in Court to support its blatantly false claims regarding the 2020 presidential election results. They lied to their supporters who had won and began to falsely refer to John Dramani Mahama as the president-elect. Now they have regressed, settling uselessly for a second round that they themselves know will not happen.
They have tried and continue to use lies, threats, violence and intimidation to sadly seek to nullify the manifest will of the people freely expressed on December 7, 2020.
We are absolutely sure that the facts and figures presented in court, including by the NDC, will very easily reaffirm, in a transparent and indisputable manner, the will expressed by the voting public that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo won the presidential elections. 2020. Choice of “one touch” and convincingly.
However, it should be noted that it is quite worrying that John Dramani Mahama, through his social networks, continues to incite violence even when he invokes his right to use the judicial process to resolve his complaint.
He posted the following on his Facebook and Twitter page;
“While in court, the NDC will continue all legitimate actions, including protests, to demand compliance with the rule of law and the protection of life and property for the good people of Ghana.”
This is quite regrettable and inappropriate for a former President of the Republic. It is obvious that the petitioner himself has very little confidence in his petition and continues to resort to intimidation to override the express will of the people of Ghana. In his last press conference, he explained that he will go to court only “to clear up doubts.” Do you need the Supreme Court to remove your doubts about losing the election?
The various attempts to use lies, threats, violence and intimidation to override the will of the People are disappointingly undemocratic by the NDC and its leader, John Dramani Mahama.
By asking his followers to continue taking to the streets, John Dramani Mahama has not only flagrantly mocked but also abused the Peace Pact signed on December 4, 2020 where he committed, among others, in the presence of witnesses and in the National Television, “accept the election results and assign the winner accordingly and use the judicial resolution of electoral disputes, when necessary.”
We call on John Dramani Mahama to immediately retract his provocative statements to his followers. It is highly irresponsible of John Dramani Mahama to initiate the judicial process and yet admonish his supporters to continue the violent protests that have threatened the safety and peace of Ghanaians and caused Ghanaians to live in fear and unnecessary panic during the last few weeks.
The good people of Ghana hold John Dramani Mahama accountable for his sacred commitment to upholding the Peace Pact, just as HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo did in 2012 and 2016.
In fact, when NPP filed a Petition in 2012, we notably warned our supporters not to go outside and not to go outside.
In fact, this was recognized by John Dramani Mahama’s then Foreign Minister Hannah Tetteh, who told investors in Dubai on May 2, 2013: “Our elections have been contested but they are being contested in court, not they are being contested in the streets and whatever the outcome of the court’s decision, we will all accept it as political parties ”.
The NPP is very confident that due process will prevail and the Supreme Court will deal with the Petition in accordance with the rule of law.
May God bless our homeland Ghana and make it great and strong!
