Fresh claims over Aston Villa’s ‘concerns’ – and what Purslow told meeting

Aston Villa have been named as one of the six Premier League clubs to air concerns about the restart.

The Premier League and its members have been meeting every fortnight since it was suspended to discuss the possibility of resuming the campaign.

Villa haven’t played a game since their 4-0 defeat at Leicester City on March 9 and Bodymoor Heath has been shut down for weeks.

Villa’s players have been keeping fit at home to adhere to the Government’s guidelines on social distancing to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Last Friday’s meeting saw the Premier League outline plans to return to training this month ahead of a possible restart in early June.

However, according to a report in The Mirror, six Premier League clubs aren’t all-together on board with plans to restart the season – and Villa are said to be one of them.

The Mirror reports that Villa chief executive Christian Purslow aired concerns over player welfare, while the club are also said to be frustrated with the plan to finish the season on neutral grounds.

Other clubs named are Villa’s relegation rivals Norwich City, Bournemouth, Watford, West Ham and Brighton – all of whom make up the bottom six.

The Premier League needs 14 clubs to vote in favor of the restart and, although the bottom six may not be entirely in favor, it looks like they will be successful.

The report states: “The Premier League said ‘industry leading safety measures’ were being used to give players all of the necessary assurances before they go back to training.

“But during the meeting, it was argued that no-one will be ‘100 percent safe’ until a vaccine is found – so should the doors remain closed until then?

“It was also stressed that the Government will decide on testing and no footballer will be tested ahead of a key frontline worker.”

Villa have 10 fixtures remaining against Chelsea, Wolves, Liverpool, Manchester United, Crystal Palace, Everton, Arsenal, West Ham, Newcastle United and Sheffield United.
