The transfer window slammed shut on Monday, but apparently it appears Chelsea boss Frank Lampard still has a bigger deal he wants to complete.
Lampard wants to sign a suitable defensive midfielder, something he lacks in his current setup.
They have been chasing West Ham’s Declan Rice for this position, but his club seems to hold its own in any search there.
Although Rice has not yet been ruled out, The Telegraph reports that Chelsea could turn to Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey as an alternative to Rice before the window closes on Monday.
They have been looking for the 27-year-old for some time now and he has become a viable option to sign with his £ 45 million release clause.

However, Chelsea need to kick out some of their fringe players in the next few days before a move for a new DM is sanctioned, so it could be a busy few days at Stamford Bridge.
