Frank Lampard has claimed that it is “ridiculous” to suggest that Chelsea have the best team in the Premier League after their defeat at Everton.
The Blues missed their chance to return to the top of the Premier League when a Gylfi Sigurdsson penalty proved the difference.
Chelsea invested heavily in the summer as their aim is to close the gap with players like Liverpool.
Roman Abramovich spent more than £ 200 million on players like Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, but Lampard is not yet ready to recognize his team as the one to beat.
He told BT Sport: “It’s a long season. If some people talk about us, ‘We’re going to win the league, we have the best team in the league,’ he said.

“It’s ridiculous because when you talk about better squads, you have to look at the teams that have won them in the last two, three or four years.”
One of his summer signings, Edouard Mendy, was in charge of giving Everton his penalty.

The Frenchman in general has been very impressive since joining and has helped strengthen Chelsea’s defense.
And as a result, Lampard was eager to defend his number one after his bad judgment.

“He has been outstanding from the get-go, so I’ll stick with that one,” he added.
“It was a difficult moment, he got caught in the middle and he fouled.”
The Blues also accepted that their team was not their usual and played directly in the hands of Everton.
“It’s not our best performance,” he continued. “The first 20 minutes were key for me, I knew I was coming, longer balls and second balls for a team that needed a victory.
“When you go 1-0 down, it absolutely fits into their game plan. We hit the post twice, but at our levels and what we’ve been recently, not good enough.
