Frank Lampard, keen to keep Chelsea stars grounded
According to The Evening Standard, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is trying to keep his players grounded despite a recent surge in fortunes.
The Blues are set to take on Newcastle United at the early start tomorrow. A victory will make us take first place at least for a while. With us back on the hunt for the title, optimism among players is quite high.
Emotion and morale seem to be high in the Chelsea team. There is a feeling that the players are into something special.
As someone who has won numerous titles, Lampard knows that there is still a long way to go in the season. With a lot still to play for, he is eager to stop the title talks among his stars.
“It’s my job to muffle what he said there and say that we know there is a long way to go.”
It’s notable that the Blues still have players like Christian Pulisic to return, while Kai Havertz is yet to hit his prime. With the Blues still not playing their strongest XI, there could be a lot more to come.
Young winger Callum Hudson-Odoi revealed a genuine belief among players that they are title contenders. While faith is good, it should not turn into complacency.
Lampard is happy with the confidence seeping through his quad. However, he has admitted that there is still a lot to do before we can say that we are contenders.
“There are so many things we have to work on and improve on before we can start to engage in that conversation.”
In Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilciueta and N’Golo Kante, we have some players who have won the biggest trophies in football. Hopefully the wisest heads can curb the youthful exuberance and make sure we don’t lose sight of the ball.

Both Liverpool and Manchester City have set the standard expected of champions in recent seasons. While both teams have yet to get it right, they also have a number of issues to deal with.
Only a fool would rule them out and we must not lose sight of what we have to overcome to get to the top.
