Ghana international Frank Acheampong put in an excellent performance to keep Tianjin Teda in the Chinese Super Super League after leading Shenzhen Kaisa to a 1-1 tied game, completing a 3-1 aggregate victory.
Teda, who entered the game at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Center with a 2-0 lead courtesy of Acheampong’s double in the first leg.
John Murray fired at the locals ahead in the 28th minute and Teda went into halftime with no response.
Both teams reached the second half playing with great intensity, as Kaisa fought for the second goal to nullify Teda’s 2-0 lead in the corresponding match.
Teda, on the other hand, was looking for a draw to complicate things even more for the locals.
It took the exploits of captain Frank Acheampong, who was brought down not far from the penalty area after taking on three defenders.
Odil Akhmedov’s free kick was beautifully connected by Felix Bastians for the equalizer in the 75th minute.
Teda with this result beat relegation while advancing to the next stage of the playoffs and Shenzhen Kaisa suffers demotion.
Frank Acheampong after the match said: “I am so happy that I escaped relegation, I have had incredible seasons with Teda and if the team is relegated, not in a moment I am the captain of this great club. I told my teammates that we could do it and I am glad I saved our beloved club. The fans, the management and everyone are happy and we are grateful to God ”.
Tianjin Teda now awaits his opponents for the playoff semifinals.
