Former WAFA star Samuel Tetteh explains the reason behind the team’s poor quality in the Ghana Premier League

Former WAFA star Samuel Tetteh says the club is unable to reproduce its impressive form at home in its Ghana Premier League away games due to the quality of the fields and poor referees.

WAFA are undefeated at home this season but have only managed to win one away game, a 1-0 win over Techiman Eleven Wonders at Ohene Ameyaw Park on matchday three.

Samuel Tetteh, who was a huge star for the academy boys in the 2015/15 season, brought this up in response to the team’s poor road form this season.

“It’s not that WAFA can’t win games when we leave. Some of the pitches, let’s be honest, weren’t in our favor, and the refereeing was always terrible, “he told Citi TV.

“When you travel, you have to play against the team and the referee. It was so terrible.

“But at home, we always knew that even if the referee was not that good, we always had a chance because we could play our football on our good field.”

WAFA has turned their territory into a fortress, giving some major defeats to some of the biggest soccer clubs in the country.

They beat Sekondi Hasaacas 5-0 in 2016, defeated Hearts of Oak 5-0 in 2017 and thrashed Ashantigold 6-1 in 2020.

The team also defeated Liberty Professionals 5-0 on Matchday 11 of the current season.

WAFA is currently in fifth place with 18 points after Matchday 12 of the current season.

Samuel Tetteh currently plays for FC Polten in the Austrian Bundesliga on loan from Red Bull Salzburg.
