The National Democratic Party (NDP) on Friday will hail former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings as a standard-bearer ahead of the 2020 elections.

This will be the second time that Ms. Rawlings will run as a presidential candidate if she receives the endorsement of the party congress scheduled for Friday 4 and Saturday 5 September 2020.

A statement issued and signed by the party’s secretary general, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, said that the former First Lady was chosen from three candidates.

The statement said that former president and founder of the Democratic National Congress (NDC), Jerry John Rawlings, would be the guest speaker for the day.

“This Friday due to the COVID-19 protocols, five [delegates] each of the 16 regions will flock to Accra for an internal session to support the flag bearer and national executives. And on Saturday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm it will be the exterior of our national officers, including the standard bearer ”, says the statement.

About NDP

The National Democratic Party is a political party founded in October 2012 by Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, wife of former President Jerry John Rawlings.

Nana Konadu was previously a high-ranking member of the Democratic National Congress before separating.

In 2012, the Electoral Commission (EC) disqualified her and 11 other presidential candidates for failing to meet the requirements before the September 30 deadline to submit nomination documents.

She contested again in 2016 on the NDP ballot.
