Josep Lluis Vilaseca, former director of Barcelona, has died at the age of 90.
He was a very respected name in Catalan and Spanish sports, having held some positions with great responsibility at the Camp Nou.

Vilaseca was director in Barcelona between 1969 and 1977, during the presidency of Agusti Montal and later with Raimon Carrasco. He also chaired the XXI Century Commission, created in October 2000 to reform the club’s bylaws.
But Vilaseca was also a key figure in organizing the Barcelona ’92 Olympic Games and was a member of the Spanish Olympic Committee since 2003.
His work at UEFA also stands out, as he was a member of the European body’s Control and Disciplinary Committee from 1987 to 1996, when he assumed the presidency. He was also a member of the jury for the Prince of Asturias Foundation Awards.
From 1980 to 1995 he was also the Sports Councilor of the Generalitat de Catalunya. He was even a deputy for the Convergencia i Unio party.
In 2018, Vilaseca received the special award from the former president of the International Olympic Committee, Juan Antonio Samaranch.
He was also awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi (2002), the UEFA Order of Merit (2007) and the Gold Medal of the City of Barcelona for sports merit (2014) and the Olympic Order of the IOC.
