The government says it will consider canceling international flights to Ghana should the need arise following the outbreak of a new strain of coronavirus in the UK.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the new strain of the virus spreading in the UK is reported to be more infectious.

The new strain has prompted dozens of countries in the European Union and around the world to close their borders to travelers from the UK.

Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said that Ghana is monitoring the situation before strict measures are taken.

“All the cards are on the table. Ghana has two levels of prevention for international travel, but we (the Government) continue to comply and if necessary, and some changes need to be made, it will be done accordingly.

“That is why even though we see comments about platforms closing flights from the UK, closing flights from the US, we are guided by the layers of prevention we have put in place, but we continue to monitor the situation.” What is happening in the UK?

A new strain of the virus that causes COVID-19 it has been identified in the south-east of England, said UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock.

“It appears that this strain of the virus may be spreading faster, leading to more cases. There is no indication that it can cause a more serious illness. ”

This has forced some European countries, including France and Italy, to ban flights from the UK.

However, the European Commission has recommended that countries lift restrictions and allow essential travel to resume.
