The flags of several decentralized institutions in Hohoe fly at half mast to mourn the death of former President Jerry John Rawlings.

President Akufo-Addo, on Thursday, November 13, ordered that all flags nationwide fly at half-mast to honor the late president.

A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to some institutions saw flags being flown as directed by the president.

The Hohoe Municipal Assembly, ADB Bank, Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Bank of Ghana, Volta, GCB Bank, including some hotels and gas stations, had lowered their flags.

The GNA also interacted with some residents about the passing of former President Rawlings.

Paul Addo, an elder, described Rawlings as a selfless ruler who was never drunk with power.

“He instilled the spirit of volunteerism among the citizens.”

He noted that the former president returned the country to its democratic position through the restoration of the Fourth Republic.

Ms. Joyce Adomah, a food vendor, said that the only way citizens and leaders could live out Rawlings’ legacy was to emulate his selfless leadership.

“I remember JJ Rawlings cleaning gutters around the Hohoe post office and I doubt any leader could do this. I am saddened by his death, ”he said.

Iddrisu Musah, a merchant pointed out that Ghanaians should emulate the good deeds of former President Rawlings and added that they should support the family and the government in giving a proper farewell to the former president.

Meanwhile, the flags are half-masts in most state institutions in Ho, including the Social Security and National Insurance Fund (SSNIT), the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Volta Regional Coordination Council (VRCC ) and the Ghana Revenue Authority, among others, in line with President Akufo-Addo’s directive to honor the distinguished deceased statesman.
