Four Ayalolo buses were burned in a fire at the Ashanti regional workshop of the State Transportation Company (STC) in Kumasi.

The buses, numbering 62, would have been burned if not for the timely intervention of the fire service.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Wednesday night around 10:20 pm when the station is closed for the day.

According to a night worker from STC, PA Adusei, the fire engulfed the buses a few hours after the drivers parked and left.

“I even got inside these two that you’re seeing as soon as the drivers parked and went home, about two hours ago, just before the fire broke out.

“I was on night watch, while I was still parking the buses, I saw the flames of the fire but I cannot say the cause of the fire,” said the witness.

Speaking to Kofi Asare, Assistant Division Officer (Grade 1) for Adom News, Bernard Nyametei said: “We did everything possible to prevent the fire from spreading to the other buses that had not yet caught fire.”

At the moment, the cause of the fire is unknown, but the acting commander of the Asokwa municipal fire station has assured that the investigation will begin from Thursday to investigate the cause.
