Fikayo Tomori aims to leave permanently Chelsea in the January transfer window after falling into Frank Lampard’s pecking order, according to reports.

The 23-year-old made his breakthrough in the first team last season, but has struggled for minutes this season with just three appearances in all competitions.

The arrival of Thiago Silva on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain has hampered Tomori’s chances of securing more playing time, as the Brazilian has quickly formed a strong partnership alongside Kurt Zouma at the heart of the Chelsea defense.

But according to The Athletic, Chelsea also have ‘reservations’ about Tomori’s ability in the air and his concentration levels.

The report claims Tomori is “highly regarded” by Chelsea, but the defender “has had enough” of being a fringe player on the team and is looking to walk away with a permanent deal when the next transfer window opens.

Chelsea, however, is looking to send Tomori on loan to Leeds United, Newcastle United and Rennes, all interested in a move.

Tomori turned down the opportunity to join West Ham on loan in the final stages of the summer transfer window.

And speaking last month, Lampard warned the defender could struggle to secure a regular role at Chelsea with stiff competition for places.

“Fikayo made the decision not to go and that is within his rights,” Lampard said.

That didn’t influence my thoughts at all. He is still a developing player.

‘When I say development, it has had two fantastic years. He got into the England national team, was one of the best defenders in the championship, and then played more than 20 games for Chelsea.

“It is normal for a young player at times, in a team as competitive as ours, where there are periods when you may not play every week.”
