The Head of Legal Affairs of the Food and Drug Authority, Cynthia Dapaah-Ntow, has applied to the high court for an injunction against the broadcast of the investigative documentary entitled ‘The Returns Bribe’.
The documentary, which was produced by Manasseh Azure Awuni, revealed that the lawyer negotiated a bribe of ¢ 200,000 from the CEO of COA FS, Professor Samuel Ato Duncan.
Later, he allegedly also ¢ 600,000, to which he later returned with a complaint that the amount was not up to the negotiated level.
Ms. Dapaah-Ntow is requesting the court for an “interlocutory court order restricting the defendant / Defendants in this document, their workers, latrines, assignees and all who seek to air or circulate the documentary called ‘The Bribery Returned’ or any other related material, either in whole or in part on television, radio or any social media platform pending the determination of the substantive matter … “
The Executive Director of the Food and Drug Authority (FDA) and the Chief of Legal Affairs are under investigation for allegedly taking bribes from the manufacturer of COA FS.
Professor Samuel Ato Duncan told investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni that Head of Legal Affairs Cynthia Dapaah-Ntow demanded that he pay $ 100,000 to be given the green light to continue selling their product.
In a telephone conversation, Ms. Dapaah Ntow said that she was taking the money on behalf of the Authority’s executive director, Delese Mimi Darko.
But FDA’s attorney has contested this while the Office of National Investigations (BNI) investigates.
In addition to banning The Multimedia Group from broadcasting the documentary on television, it has also filed a separate defamation lawsuit.
The three defendants are Manasseh Azure Awuni, the investigative journalist who produced the documentary, The Multimedia Group and Samuel Ato Duncan, CEO of COA FS.
Following the advice of the company’s attorneys, management has decided that, out of respect for the court, it will continue to broadcast the documentary until the request for a court order is heard on November 24, 2020.
