Spectators could be allowed into playing venues when football resumes, Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah has hinted.
According to the Sports Minister, the government is evaluating the security protocols that will allow fans to watch games at the playing venues, as it plans to resume professional football soon.
Isaac Asiamah said fans are an integral part of the game and deserve to be a part of any plan for the game’s return.
He reiterated the government’s position that the GFA will receive authorization to host soccer matches once all security protocols are in place.
He assured that the government and the FA are working together to ensure that the game returns as soon as possible.
“Recently, the president spoke about the measures that we are implementing to control the coronavirus. I beg you, God willing, the protocols that we are working on will ensure that the president speaks again and football recovers,” said Mr. Said Asiamah.
“The paramount in the protocols will be the safety of the supporters, the supporters are very important to the government. The supporters make the game beautiful, so they must be protected.
“It will not be long, football will recover with the measures that we are going to put in place. However, all those who love the game must be protected, that is very vital.”
This news is refreshing for Ghanaian soccer players and administrators, as professional soccer has not existed since mid-March.
After months of suspension, Ghana’s football season was canceled following the government’s refusal to give the FA permission to restart the season.
Some soccer players and administrators have expressed disappointment with the government for not acceding to the FA’s request.
The FA has scheduled the weekend of October 9 as the start of the 2020/2021 league season.
