The lawyer representing the suspects in the West Togoland secession case was arrested after it was found to be a fake.

According to police, Dennis Seyram Benson, who is introducing himself as a lawyer, has been representing the suspects since the inception of the case.

Police in a statement said that Mr. Seyram Benson’s behavior in court raised suspicions that led to a background check that revealed he was a false attorney.

The 42-year-old has since been arrested and is currently assisting police with investigations.

Meanwhile, the Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Marvin Essandoh, granted bail in the combined sum of GH ¢ 2.5 million to 25 of the defendants who have been indicted in the West of Togo.

Each of the 25 defendants has obtained a bond for the sum of ¢ 100,000 GH with two guarantees each.

The bonds, the court said, must be public servants earning no less than GH ¢ 4000 per month and report to the police.

Four of the 29 who appeared in court today were also released after the prosecution amended the charge sheet.

They are charged with serious crimes of treason.
