Private lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe has said that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s refusal to implement the recommendations of the Emile Short Commission report on the violence that characterized the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections is his biggest accusation.

He noted that the report made several recommendations that, once implemented, would have addressed part of the electoral violence that is observed in this country.

But, according to him, Akufo-Addo has deliberately refused to implement the recommendations.

The Emile Short Justice Commission was established by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo pursuant to Article 278 of the 1992 Constitution, to investigate the events and associated violence that occurred during the Ayawaso-West-Wuogon by-elections on January 31, 2019.

The Commission also presented its report to Mr. Akufo-Addo on Thursday, March 14, 2019.

The government issued its White Paper on the report and rejected most of the parts.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day program on Thursday, November 5, in connection with an assurance given by Inspector General of Police James Oppong-Boanuah, that the safety of Ghanaians is guaranteed prior to the December 7 elections, Mr. Tameklo, who is also a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said that “the president himself has tolerated, conspired and has done everything possible to unleash violence.

“We were here when the party thugs were so encouraged to storm a court headed by a judge and released the men who were in custody.
“What happened to them? They were fined that was paid by the nuclear power plant and the case ended. That is the level of official complicity.”

He added: “Our president has refused to act on the Ayawaso West Wuogon report. That is the biggest accusation against the president in history. The report said Double, who was cited for unleashing assaults, should be prosecuted. What happened to that? “

But responding to his claim on the same show, Dennis Aboagye, a member of the New Patriotic Party (PNP) Communications team, dismissed the claim and said the president acted appropriately in relation to the report.

In addition, he pointed out that there were several cases of electoral violence during the NDC mandate, but these cases were not addressed.

“Our people were brutalized in Akwatia by Baba Jamal, our people were beaten in Odododiodio in 2016 and what happened?”
